This is a struggle I see often in business where a person can’t make up their mind on whether to be loyal to the people around them vs. simply to be objective and do what’s right for themselves or their business.
Somehow they’ve bought into the “loyalty” narrative probably by watching too many organized crime shows and movies. They end up putting their businesses and relationships at risk because they have loyal idiots by their side.
Let’s call it for what it is. Loyalty in business is another word for nepotism and shouldn’t be glorified. While I’m not advocating that we all trade up at every moment or that we don’t reward those who put in the effort, it’s important to confront the line where loyal idiots win at the risk of great hires and a good business.
