Not everyone hates advice. Some people crave it. Those people seem to be the minority.
One aspect of emotional intelligence is understanding who wants it and who repels it. Unfortunately no matter how good your advice is to someone, if they aren’t open to listening, your advice not only will be ignored, but you personally will come across as insulting.
For those people, encouragement seems to be the better path. I try not to push on people I don’t know well when I see resistance. I just don’t see the appeal knowing it’s not going to ring a bell. On one hand, I’m probably not doing that person any favors, but on the other hand, people sometimes need to find their own way and make their own mistakes.
