In many ways, Perk ended up being successful by chance and luck. In a lot of ways, we were poking in the dark and trying to pin the tail on the donkey.
Only afterwards, did we realize that one of the biggest reasons Perk grew is that we created a product where an existing community of people were socializing and looking for products like Perk in forums and other user groups.
This gave us our initial boost we needed to get Perk off the ground.
In any endeavor that I start in the future, one of the most important aspects to take into account is whether there is an existing audience you are targeting or whether you’re attempting to create a new one.
There is a big difference and the second is much harder than the first.
Find the community that you’re building your product for. Get in there. Listen. Grow.
