Ideas need to be challenged. Progress comes from dissent and the opposing view. Very few people in this world will have the gumption to tell it to you straight. That friction is what causes you to think through problems that maybe you didn’t think about or even ignored.
The worst thing we can do as managers and executives is to look at those people as the enemy. Keeping ‘Yes Men’ around is great for the ego, but rarely is going to help take your team and idea to the next level.
