People Over Estimate What Can Be Done In A Week, But Underestimate What Can Be Done In A Day

This is a play on Bill Gates’ famous quote:

“Most people overestimate what they can do in one year and underestimate what they can do in ten years.”

The same is true in reverse about what can be accomplished in a day.  More can be achieved in a day than in a week if you just get it done.

Here’s a test to put this in action.  Write down your to-do list for the week.  The whole list.  Now, attempt to get it done in a single day.   The odds are that the simple application of writing the list down and getting after it will show you that you can get everything done in a short period of time.  Certainly much shorter than you probably imagine.

When you have more time, you tend to space out your work and sometimes even put off things indefinitely.

Give it a shot.  You might be underestimating what can be done today.
